Soren Schaller is a German director impassioned by, and devoted to, bringing realism, authenticity, and emotional truth to the screen. His visual style combines traditional cinematic beauty with experimental and unconventional techniques to create highly-dramatic imagery that pulses with rhythm and is rich with layers of visual delights and multiple meanings. His interest in real characters, storytelling and filmmaking was born out of his experiences growing up in a post-communist concrete apartment block jungle in Leipzig where he was keen to observe and absorb the daily lives and stories of the fascinating people around him.
After his military service, he was rejected by film school but broke into the business anyway, starting as a set-runner and working his way up. He did an internship at the creative agency, Jung von Matt, as an art director, and then started making music videos for friends. That work quickly got him noticed and he began directing videos for major label artists.
His storytelling curiosity has led him into many different mediums of expression – still photography, design, documentaries, music videos, commercials – and he brings this eclectic experience to every project he takes up. No technique, no style, no idea is ever off the table. All that matters is an end result that is visually stimulating and emotionally honest.
